How to cope with cancer and its long, draining but life saving treatment therapies?
I just recently had a lumpectomy surgery. Till the summer I will continue with radiation and immune therapy. A looong stretch, a marathon…
but,
I immerse myself into art and I do manage to “forget” I am battling with breast cancer. Before surgery I took myself and my son to Paris. The amazement and awe while observing big works of art, #Rodin’s statues that feel almost alive, #Monet’s water lilies, #Dega’s dancers, #Renoir’s vivid colours, #VictorHugo’s home. It is not just what those artists created that is captivating, but also their life stories that ignite imagination even more, and the mind opens to different life perspectives.
Then life also brings positive surprises. A year ago, I was offering #MindfulArtMaking walking experience in Athens and in Paris I met Evelyne Mazallon founder of iN ARTS I participated with my son and my friend Patricia Van Pelt in one of iN ARTS walks, in Tuileries Garden. For three whole hours, we drew and we learnt about the history of the garden. It was a beautiful experience! If you ever visit Paris an iN ARTS walking tour with Evelyne is highly recommended!
Observing & making art it does not just help to take a break, reassess life while coping with health challenges but it also lowers stress and anxiety that many times are the root causes of cancer.
Art heals.
